Neurocognitive Approach EN (NCA)

The NCA is a therapeutic approach based on an understanding of the brain mechanisms. These mechanisms (emotions, beliefs, behaviors) have an impact on our decisions and actions. Learning to manage them (Adaptive Intelligence) allows us to interact effectively, with less stress, more adaptability, and a better quality of life.

Origins

This approach is part of third-generation cognitive and behavioral therapies, born in the early 1980s. It helps the person to modify his or her perception and state of mind when facing an event, to better manage it.

The brain facing the known and the unknown

The NCA distinguishes two main modes of brain operation: automatic mode and adaptive mode.

The automatic mode acts on reality by reproducing known experiences (mental patterns, beliefs, behavioral habits) to save time and energy.

If this mode is ineffective (new situation), our brain generates stress to warn us that we can no longer do as always, that we must mobilize an “adaptive” functioning.

The adaptive mode stimulates our curiosity and reflection. It blurs certainties to have more creativity and to look for unusual but more efficient behaviors (behavioral agility). This mode requires more time and energy to learn how to do, instead of repeating.

Adaptive Intelligence Training

Adaptive intelligence is the ability to consciously switch between automatic and adaptive modes of operation when a situation presents us with a problem.

The NCA teaches us to practice this shift, both to mobilize our creativity and to distinguish our core values from conventions. We learn to act flexibly and by our deep-seated motivations.

The accompaniment of organizations

We place the principles of the NCA at the basis of our workshop design.  Beyond the strategic objectives, participants experience their adaptive intelligence, both individual and collective.

The playful dimension facilitates the desire to learn to analyze, decide, and act flexibly. Interactive activities form behavioral agility in teams. Finally, iteration in the pathways allows the assimilation of new behaviors.

The result is a more resilient organization, more agile in the face of internal and external changes, more efficient, and with a better quality of life.

NCA, GNP and Polarity Thinking

We combine NCA with other coaching approaches such as Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and Polarity Thinking

NLP: it offers tools and techniques for the quick and easy acquisition of behavioral, cognitive, and linguistic patterns associated with excellence in communication, learning, and change.

Polarity Thinking: a polarity is the association of factors that are coessential, exclusive, and interdependent at the same time (inspiration/exhalation, management / collaborative management). Managing a polarity means getting the best of both poles by avoiding their limits.

Advantages of the Adaptive Intelligence

Creativity, adaptability, flexibility, decision-making, intuition, empathy, stress management, learning to learn, intrinsic motivation, collective performance, individual development, change management, resilience, risk-taking, motivation to act.

Change management and excellence

The brain doesn’t like change and resists it as much as it can. Practicing adaptive intelligence pushes us to go beyond resistance with curiosity and creativity, to experiment other ways of doing things. The result is continuous improvement of practices (excellence) and achievement at work.
